Callipeg is compatible with any iPad using iPadOS 14 or later and the Apple Pencil 1st and 2nd generations. The app is only available on iPad, not on iPhone.

Make sure that you are using the same Apple ID on your iPad than the one you used to purchase the app.

If you still see the purchase options, tap on “Restore purchases” in order to force the app to check if you made a purchase.

To update Callipeg, go to the App Store and tap on your profile picture in the top right to access your Account menu. Tap on Purchases or Subscriptions depending on how you are accessing Callipeg. You will find the list of all your apps. Next to the Callipeg icon, if you see Open: your app is already up to date. If you see Update: tap on it to update Callipeg.

Your account won’t be charged after the trial period. You will be free to choose between 3 payment options or to simply uninstall the app if it doesn’t fit your needs.

Go to the App Store and tap on your profile picture in the top right to access your Account menu. Tap on Subscriptions and on the Callipeg icon in the Active tab. There, you can tap on the other subscription option you want to get, or on cancel the subscription. To purchase the permanent version of Callipeg, you will have to cancel the current subscription and wait for your subscription to end. Then, when you go back in Callipeg, the price panel appears and you can select Permanent Purchase, fill your Apple account information and purchase Callipeg permanently.

Callipeg is currently only compatible with the Apple Pencil (1st and 2nd generations).

Callipeg is available in English, French, Japanese and Chinese. The language depends on the Languages/Regions settings of your iPad. You can switch languages in the app settings located in the Settings app of your iPad.

Animation files are composed of a lot of image files and can take a lot of storage space. Shots in the Studio are open and ready to use to allow for fast loading time when you open them.

Exporting your shot as a PEG file allows you to compress the file and delete the shot from the Studio in order to free storage space. You can import PEG files in the Studio which will then be uncompressed and ready to use.

Callipeg saves automatically your shot every 30 seconds and every time you go back to the Studio. The backup files are multiple .peg files which are saved every 30 minutes. You can change the backup parameters in the app settings > General tab. You can find these backup files in your Files app > On my iPad > Callipeg > Backups. If you want to secure your files even more, you can export your .peg files to another folder (in your iPad or in a Cloud storage). When removing Callipeg from your device, iOS also removes its folder and all the content (backups / logs / settings), therefore if you are planning to uninstall Callipeg, export your shots and save your backups in another location than the Callipeg folder On My iPad.

You can choose the definition of your shot in pixels. For example 1920×1080 pixels, 2K or 4K. The performance will depend on your iPad specs. The higher the definition and the more sheets and layers you create, the more performance and storage you will need.

Only the number of sheets matters. You can have as many layers as you want, until you reach the sheets limit. This limit depends on the storage of your device. The size of one sheet equals the length of the shot in pixels multiplied by the height of the shot in pixels multiplied by 4 bytes. Here is how to estimate your possible number of sheets depending on your remaining available storage : (remaining available storage in bytes / (height of your shot in pixels x length of your shot in pixels x 4)) / 3 = number of sheets you can add in Callipeg This calculation includes a rough estimation of the size of undos and backups, but this will depend on how many actions you do, the number of backups you have set and other conditions. So consider this as a very rough estimation to have an idea of how many sheets you can add. So, for example, if you have 50Gb left on your iPad storage and a 1920×1080 pixels shot, you can add (50 000 000 000 / (1920x1080x4))/3= 2009 more sheets in the app. The performance of navigation and fluidity of drawing will also depend on your iPad processor and RAM.

You can export to several files formats:

  • PEG is the Callipeg file format. It can only be opened in Callipeg.
  • MP4 video format.
  • HEVC video format with or without transparency.
  • GIF animated image format.
  • PNG image format which can be exported as a sequence or a still image, with the possibility of exporting with the layer structure (one folder per layer which contains one PNG file per frame or per sheet.)

You can import PEG, image, video and audio files from the Import button in the Studio. You can also import JPG and PNG images directly in your shots with drag and drop from another app or through the action panel of your sheets. You can also import video and audio files directly from the video and audio layers in the timeline.

If the export process does not conclude and it is impossible for you to export your animation as a video file, this means the shot is probably too long.

An animation shot is usually between 1 and 12 seconds long. If the shot you are working on is bigger than 30 seconds, this might cause memory overflow of the RAM of your device while the app is processing the images to render them into a video file. You will only be able to export portions of a large animation file.

In the export tab, tap on the start and end frame numbers under the preview to change the values and export a segment of your animation (e.g. 1 to 100, then 101 to 200).

Ultimately it is advised to work on small shots to avoid memory overflows.

If you encounter any bug or issue using Callipeg, please contact us through our contact form.

If all the drawing sheets’ content in your shot has disappeared, this might be caused by a cache issue. Close and restart the app to fix the issue.
